Fort Stockton residents Hector Flores Jr. and his daughter Luna Flores were successfully located on Sunday after a missing persons report was originally filed by their family on Feb. 7 with the Fort Stockton Police Department.

Both were found together in good condition in Boquillas, Mexico, adjacent to Big Bend National Park.

On Sunday, Feb. 13, the National Park Service was notified by Boquillas residents of a man and young girl fitting the description of Hector and Luna were in the area and seeking to purchase food.

Mexico State Police were able to reach the area and confirm their identities Monday afternoon. Both are reported to be in healthy condition.

The two were detained by Mexican authorities and will be returned to the United States to reunite with family members on Feb. 15 according to the NPS press rel.

Fort Stockton Police Department Investigator Alexis Olivares, who has worked the case for the FSPD since the missing persons reports were filed, added that no charges had been made against Hector Flores Jr. as of Feb. 15 to his knowledge. Olivares added that Child Protective Services has got involved with case.

“As of right now I have not been made aware of any charges. That is going to be up to the National Park Service Park Rangers and all other agencies assisting them, which includes the FBI,” he said. “CPS was contacted by the National Park Service. The investigation is not over yet. It could take days or weeks, or it could take months.”

Big Bend National Park rangers would like to thank all who participated in this search, and the public for their concern and assistance in helping spread the request for information. Searchers from the NPS, FBI, U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Fort Stockton Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, residents of Boquillas, Mexican officials and Mexican State Police have been searching for the two individuals since Feb. 5, when Flores’ vehicle was found abandoned along the remote Old Ore Road in Big Bend National Park.
