In the early stages of her career, owning a small business was not in the plans for Judy Espino and her husband Raul Espino.

Judy moved to Fort Stockton in 1997 and became the assistant principal at Fort Stockton High School upon arrival.

Her husband, Raul, worked in the oil industry and still does this day.

In 2000, Judy became the principal of Fort Stockton Middle School for the next 10 years until she decided to call it a career in education.

After a brief retirement, Judy was ready to get back in the workforce and stay active.

And it just so happened that the Sears Hometown Store in Fort Stockton was available for purchase.

“After I retired I got bored and we always wanted to have a retail business. It was available so we took it,” Judy said. “I like to get up every morning and have a place to go and something to do.”

Raul and Judy bought the business and have been owners since, along with Judy’s brother-in-law, Jesse Espino, who is in charge of daily operations at the store.

“My husband still works for an oil company. My brother-in-law and I are here most of the time. He takes care, of getting appliances into the store and delivering appliances. I take care of managing and my husband, he comes after he gets off his other job and on weekends,” Judy said.

The Sears Hometown Store in Fort Stockton delivers to not only to Pecos County, but surcounties as well.

The store offers appliances, lawn and garden supplies, and tools. Sears has all the major brands of vacuums, washers, dryers, ranges, freezers, and more.

The store is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
