As the only location in Fort Stockton for gently used clothing and housewares, El Buen Vecino fills a need in a city that has no Goodwill, or Thrift Stores.

Operated by volunteers out of an old building owned by the First Methodist Church, El Buen Vecino has been helping people for decades.

Now the “little thrift store that could” is taking on its first major fund raiser, a day-long rummage sale that will take place on Saturday, April 22 at First Christian Church, located at 200 S Rio St., from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Items up for sale will include household items, furniture, dishes and much more. There will be no clothing or shoes at the rummage sale.

Shoes and clothing can be donated directly to El Buen Vecino. Proceeds from the sale will go to maintaining and improving the building and its utilities.

For years El Buen Vecino has struggled with leaky water pipes and poor electrical connections. This year the board decided to hold its first Rummage Sale to make needed repairs so it can continue serving the Fort Stockton community from its location at 408 S. Valentine St.

To donate items, please contact Auralia at 432-360-6201. For more information on the rummage sale, call Jane at 432-528-9314.
