Two weeks after Governor Greg Abbott’s executive order went into effect, COVID-19 active cases continue to stay low in Pecos County.

Pecos County had six active cases on March 10 – the day the order started – and number has went no higher than eight since that time.

On March 23 it was reported that there are five current active cases in the county and five pending tests. As of March 19, there was one Pecos County resident hospitalized outside of the county.

As active cases have maintained at a low level, vaccination rates have gone up in the past two weeks. There are now 3,476 people that have been fully vaccinated in the county with two-dose shots – the Moderna and Pfizer vaccine.

A total of 208 people have been vaccinated by the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine.

That puts the county total of fully vaccinated as of March 23 to 3,684 people, which is approximately 30 percent of the 16 and older population in Pecos County. The number could be percent could be slightly lower as there have been around a couple hundred out-of-county citizens that have traveled to receive the shot according to Pecos County Memorial Hospital CEO Betsy Briscoe and Pecos County Emergency Management Coordinator Jessie Dominguez.
