On Monday, April 11, rancher Warren Nutt awarded Pecos County as an "Old Spanish Trail Centennial Celebration Official County."

The Old Spanish Trail (OST) movement was organized to promote a paved automobile highway across the southern U.S. connecting six centers of historical interest: St. Augustine, New Orleans, San Antonio, El Paso, Tucson and San Diego. Pecos County is included on the list of counties scattered along the trail. During Nutt's time at Commissioners Court, he spoke about the importance of younger generations learning about and bolstering history because oftentimes, "history is forgotten" and "we can't just let history fall apart."
