Confirmed active COVID-19 cases maintain in 40’s

Confirmed active COVID-19 cases rose to 40 on Sept. 29 and that number has stayed in the 40’s through Oct. 5.

The rise in cases is the past 10 days is the second significant increase since the delta variant began to spread in Pecos County on July 28.

The county peaked at 74 cases on Aug. 31 and gradually dropped to 20 active cases on Sept. 27 before rising once again over the last week and a half.

The current number of active cases as of Oct. 5 is 47 – an increase of seven cases from six days ago. Another fatality was reported in addition to the rise in cases. A 25-yearold male, who was hospitalized in Laredo on Sept. 8, passed away on Oct. 5.

The fatality is the 11th death due to COVID-19 complications in Pecos County since July 28 and the first since Sept. 27.

Vaccine clinic to be held on Saturday

Pecos County Memorial Hospital will host a vaccine clinic on Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Pecos County Civic Center starting at starting at 9 a.m.

The clinic will be giving out second shot doses for those who received shots on Sept. 11. The secondshots will be given out from 9 a.m. to noon.

First doses will then be available after second-shot patients received their dose. Pfizer and Moderna are available.

For booster shots (third doses) people can call to setup an appointment. Booster shots are currently for individuals 65-years-old or older, or are immunocompromised or otherwise at risk. Shots are also available to first responders.
