Commissioners adopt budget, set tax rate public hearing
The Pecos County Commissioners Court approved the 2022 budget at its Aug. 16 meeting.
The proposed total tax rate is 0.777 per $100 valuation compared to the 2021 rate of 0.7074. The general fund rate is 0.0654; road and bridge is 0.0123; and debt service is 0.00.
Pecos County is anticipating a higher tax rate to bring in approximately the same amount of money last year, due to a decrease in value, according to Pecos County Judge Joe Shuster.
Receipts, according to the budget summary, are $31,779,862.79 for the general fund, $6,181,152.89 for road and bridge (R&B) maintenance and $8,357,650 for other funds. Balances for Dec. 31, 2022 are $20,924,152.79 for the general fund, $832,753.89 for R&B maintenance and $7,114,885 for other funds. This will bring a total balance of $28,871,791.69, which is an increase of $3,179,990.89 compared to 2021.
Commissioners will meet on Aug. 30 to adopt the tax rate. This meeting will have a public hearing.
