When disaster strikes

I have watched several documentaries, read personal accounts or was told by eyewitnesses of how the people responded that were in a large destructive, terrible hurricane. I think it is very hard to understand what someone is going through unless it has happened to you. Thousands of people were able to get to safety. Some on their own and others with a lot of help. Many were taken to shelters, homes, churches or benevolent facilities.

Brisk days and crunchy autumn leaves remind us that fall is here. Store displays have changed from Halloween to Thanksgiving. We are beginning to smell pumpkin pies baking. We hear songs of Thanksgiving being played and sang. Many memories of past Thanksgivings flow through our minds.

Keeping Stars Bright with Night Sky Friendly Lighting

The night sky is a treasured part of life in the Big Bend region – an awe-inspiring backdrop to our lives. Preserving it takes the support of all in our community. In this effort, three organizations with local properties – Village Fresh Greenhouse Grown, the Brewster County Courthouse, and Terlingua Ranch Lodge – are the latest to adopt nighttime lighting that helps keep our skies dark and stars bright.

WRTTC Opens Scholars’ Dollars

Scholars’ Dollars Scholarships are available to Pecos County residents taking college courses through the Midland College Williams Regional Technical Training Center in Fort Stockton. The Board implemented changes to the scholarship program in 2024 to shift focus from exclusively financial need to include academic achievement toward the student’s stated educational goal.
