Sul Ross State University has been recognized by OnlineU as one of the most affordable universities in the nation for earning an online master’s degree in political science. OnlineU evaluated programs across the country, considering a variety of factors such as manually researched tuition rates and verified data from the National Center for Education Statistics.

Gonzales introduces mobile dental care legislation for veterans

On November 13, Congressman Tony Gonzales (TX-23) introduced the Rural Veterans Dental Care Act. This legislation would establish a pilot program to deliver dental care to veterans living in rural areas through mobile delivery methods, such as fully equipped dental vans. This closes a longstanding gap in access to dental care for rural veterans eligible for VA dental benefits by bringing dental services directly to where they live.

El Buen Vecino receives deed to its building

KIRBY WARNOCK After years of serving Fort Stockton through its community thrift store, El Buen Vecino was presented the deed to the building it occupies from the First Methodist Church of Fort Stockton. After years of uncertainty, the board needed some reassurance that it could remain in the building.
Present at the ceremony were board members Diann Warnock, Daya Martinez and Jane Norris. Handing them the deed is Chel Duarte, representing the First Methodist Church of Fort Stockton, alongside Maria Geurra, El Buen Vecino’s manager.

Warnock Honored at Recent Baylor Football Game

In 1970, Baylor University started a freshman men’s spirit organization called The Baylor Line. It seemed like a rather odd thing to do, considering that the Baylor Bears did not win a single football game the year before. But optimism was in full force on the Brazos River, and at an organizational meeting on campus, the Baylor Line was formed, and one of its original members was Fort Stockton’s Kirby Warnock.

The Xi Zeta Lambda sorority, a local service chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, has cemented its role as a key investor in the future of Fort Stockton, driven by its 30-year legacy of providing scholarships to local students and its commitment to community service. “I think all of us just feel so passionate about Fort Stockton, and I think all of us have servant hearts,” said long time sorority member Vivian Hickman, “We do it as an investment.

Pecos County Commissioners Monday Session

The Pecos County Commissioners Court met Monday, November 10, addressing a variety of agenda items including key appointments, significant infrastructure concerns, and commitment to a regional behavioral health initiative. The court acted on appointing two members to the Fort Stockton Public Library Board.
