‘Rachel’s Challenge’ coming to Fort Stockton ISD

“What would happen if for one hour the students in our schools stopped and reflected on the effects their words and actions have on their classmates?” This is the question that Rachel’s Challenge is asking students at thousands of schools all over America and will pose to the third through 12th grade students at the Fort Stockton Independent School District on Nov. 9-10.

Matthew Lee Flores, of Fort Stockton at 1:48 p.m., officers apprehended Flores and he was charged with burglary of building.

Martin Eduardo Leyva, of Fort Stockton at 3:49 p.m., officers apprehended Leyva on he was charged with burglary of habitation and unauthorized use of vehicle.

County considers purchasing tower clock

To commemorate the county’s 150th anniversary, the Pecos County Commissioner Court is looking to purchase a tower clock to be installed outside of the courthouse.

The 16-foot-tall Howard Replica Four Face post clock will have a black cast aluminum finish and gold accents. The required investment is $29,990, which includes delivery and installation but excludes any additional fees or permits.

The county would be responsible for the footer, electrical and hoist.

Celebration announced at Horsehead Crossing

Pecos County Historical Commission Chairman Paul Weatherby announced a two-day celebration at historic Horsehead Crossing on the Pecos River to be held Nov. 5-6. The event was first held in 2020 to commemorate the various historical figures who passed over this wellknown crossing throughout the 16th-19th centuries, including the Comanche War Trail, the Emigrant Trail, the Butterfield Overland Stage, and the Goodnight-Loving Trail, made famous by Larry McMurtry’s Lonesome Dove.
