The Mariachi Coro de Colores performed their mariachi mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on April 14 to a standing room only crowd. In 1966, Sister Francis Jean Terrazas of the Missionary Catechists of Divine Providence heard a mariachi mass for the first time in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

School Board discusses four-day school week

The regular meeting of the Fort Stockton Independent School Board was held on April 22 in the district board room. All board members were present except Vice President Ignacia “Nacho” Dominguez. After pledges and invocation, the board recognized April students of the month.

County to lease Railroad Freight Warehouse to EDC

The Pecos County Commissioners Court met in regular session Monday, April 22. Present for the meeting were; Judge Joe Shuster, County Judge; Tom Chapman, Commissioner Precinct 1, Robert Gonzales, Jr.; Commissioner Precinct 2, Mickey Jack Perry; Commissioner Precinct 3, Nathan Reeves; Commissioner Precinct 4, Delores Luera; Assistant County Auditor, Frank Lacy; County Attorney, Sonia Murphy; County Treasurer, and Liz Chapman, County Clerk. After the invocation by Perry, the court approved minutes from the previous meeting on April 8.

TNMP development top item for City Council

The City of Fort Stockton held its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, April 22. Mayor Paul Casias recognized Councilman Jerome Chavez for his role as umpire in the longest baseball game in Texas high school history at 23 innings, lasting over six and a half hours and 602 pitches.
Chief Velasquez and Mayor Casias present the National Animal Control Officer recognition certificate.

Community Theatre announces new show

Fort Stockton Community Theatre announces a new musical production “Nunsensations,” (The Nunsense Vegas Revue) written by Dan Goggin and directed by Penny Smith and starring local talent with musical help from friends from Fort Davis.
