In celebration of International Dark Sky Week, locations throughout the Big Bend region will be holding special events from April 13-19 that showcase our famous night skies. Events will take place at McDonald Observatory and locations around Alpine, Presidio, Fort Davis, and Terlingua.

PCMHD is proud to announce the retirement of Donald Smith, who served as Maintenance Supervisor for the Pecos County Memorial Hospital District from April 9, 2018, through March 31, 2026. During his years of dedicated service, Donald played an essential role in maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-functioning environment for patients, staff, and visitors. His commitment, reliability, and hard work have been truly appreciated by all who had the pleasure of working with him. Please join PCMHD in congratulating Donald on his retirement and wishing him all the best in this next chapter of life.

West Texas Prepares to Shine Under the Stars for Annual Dark Skies Festival

Residents and visitors across West Texas are gearing up for the annual Dark Skies Festival, a week-long celebration scheduled for April 13-19. Held in conjunction with International Dark Sky Week, the festival will feature events across several communities, including Alpine, Fort Davis, Presidio, and Terlingua, highlighting the region’s worldfamous celestial views.

Historic Weekend Celebrations

A weekend filled with history, music, rodeo tradition, and storytelling showcased the vibrant community spirit of Fort Stockton as the Pecos County Historical Commission recognized several local events as part of the America 250 – Pecos County Community Heritage Recognition Initiative. The initiative documents community traditions and civic engagement leading up to the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.
Mr. John Lannom is a businessman man that has developed a buggy business that are recognized around the United States. He had his car since he was 14, he is now 79. He loved showing the kids the car.
