September 1990: YOUNG AVIATOR – Davlin Whitaker, nine years old, became a “Warden Ace” during this summer, placing him in an elite group with less than 500 members. Gary Warden is his flight instructor. Davlin was able to take off, fly the pattern and land the plane with no assistance. Davlin is the son of Kerri Gandy.

September 1990: GETTING READY FOR OPENING – Teen volunteer workers frame up two new rest rooms being installed in the new Fort Stockton Teen Center, 218 N. Main. A dance sponsored by the STOPP group will be held Saturday night from8 to midnight. Plans call for the center to be open on weekends.

September 1990: CUB SCOUT SIGNUP – Pack 154 will be holding a Cub Scout registration and short meeting for all interested boys attending Alamo, Comanche or Intermediate schools in grades 1-5. The roundup will be held on Sept. 6 at Comanche cafeteria from 6 to 7 p.m. At least one parent must be present with the potential Cob. Getting ready for the roundup are Cub leaders Eli and Patty Escobar, Bert Rainwater and Lupe Singh.

September 1990: PLEASE HELP ME! – Fire Chief Jimmy Jackson was one of 47 community leaders who helped raise $7,000 during the March of Dimes Jail and Bail last week. Jackson spent several hours on the telephone Tuesday getting pledges from friends before finally getting out of jail. “They keep calling back with pledges to keep me in here,” he complained.
