FS Fire Department Coat Drive distributes 80 coats

The Fort Stockton Fire Dept held a coat drive the last two weeks. With the help of Fort Stockton Walmart, Glitzy’s Coffee Shop as well as Fort Stockton Convention Center, we were able to give 80 Jackets back into the community, as well as throughout the county.

SRSU Lobo Pantry receives $6,000 Swipe Out Hunger grant

The Lobo Pantry at Sul Ross State University in Alpine has been awarded a Swipe Out Hunger grant for $6,000. The Lobo Pantry is a judgment free resource for students experiencing food insecurity or limited access to affordable foods founded in 2020 through grant funding provided through various COVID-19 emergency response and relief programs. With support from the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation and others, Swipe Out Hunger distributed $421,500 to over 600 campuses across the country to ensure no student has to choose between food and their education.

There’s a story behind the little pink house. Alamo Tire and Auto Repair is now located on the west side of Dickinson but used to be located at the Alamo Ranchettes south of town. The company was initially started as a hobby by Dr. Beto Sauceda to keep his nephew productively engaged, but demand for their services grew to the point that they needed more staff and eventually much more room.

Beyond the turkey sandwich: A different way to use Thanksgiving leftovers

Ingredients 2 ½ pounds of cabbage 4 cups of turkey (leftover) 1 ½ cups sausage (casings removed) 2 eggs 3 cups of beef stock 6 ounces lean salt pork (1/4 in. in thickness-you will need 12 slices) 2 cups finely minced onions 1 medium onion thinly sliced 1 medium carrot thinly sliced 2 cups crushed tomatoes ½ teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon pepper ¾ teaspoon thyme ¼ teaspoon allspice 1 tablespoon butter 2 tablespoons olive oil Directions *For this recipe you will need to prepare an oven safe bowl about 3 quarts in size.

Reigns of Historic Grey Mule Saloon in new hands

The Grey Mule Saloon has been a law office, bookstore, café and private home prior to opening as a tasting room for Ste Genevieve Winery in November 2012. Built in the 1880s, the saloon initially catered to Army troops stationed at the fort and cowboys and Texas Rangers passing through. The winery began as a partnership between the University of Texas and a group of American and French investors that saw potential in the Trans Pecos area

Chamber Arts and Crafts Show a success

The 49th Annual Arts & Crafts Show, sponsored by the Fort Stockton Chamber of Commerce, saw a great turn-out on Saturday and had something for everyone. Admission was free and the Chamber had both free and paid door prizes. There were plenty of food booths selling pies and cakes, and vendors sold Christmas ornaments and decorations, clothes, and knickknacks.
