The Wounded Traveler

Body
In the Gospel according to Luke we find the parable of the traveler who was beaten badly, robbed and left for dead. In Jesus’ parable a priest passed by the man on the ground, his vision fixed on realms above. Then a Levite, a member by heredity of the “tribe” from which all those eligible for maintaining the Temple in Jerusalem descended, also passed by. Seeing “contamination” that would jeopardize his purity (eligibility for Temple duty) he crossed to the other side of the road. But along came a Samaritan, a sojourner in Israel. Stricken by pity, a divine gift according to Scripture, he ministered to the wounded man. In this way a life was rescued, and a soul was given another opportunity at life.
