Among the most heartfelt cries in all of Scripture are the Lament Psalms. They are the honest, unfiltered prayers of hurting souls who feel betrayed, abandoned, and overwhelmed. Psalm 3 is a prime example—an individual lament rooted in deep sorrow, real fear, and ultimate faith. This particular psalm, penned by David as he fled from his own son Absalom (2 Samuel 15–18), gives voice to the persecuted, the overwhelmed, and the broken-hearted. It lays out a systematic pattern: problem stated, God trusted, God petitioned, and God praised. And it’s a psalm we desperately need in a world where people problems seem relentless.
