Elvira Bonilla-Torres passed away early morning on Friday, February 7, surrounded by her four beloved children in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was born in Julimes, Chihuahua, Mexico on January 25, 1951, to Alberto Oviedo, the oldest daughter of 13 children.

A Roman Holiday for Valentine’s

The Fort Stockton Film Society is inviting the community to a special Valentine’s-themed event this Saturday, February 15, with a free screening of the timeless romantic comedy Roman Holiday at the Nelson Street Theater. Starring Audrey Hepburn in her Academy Award-winning role and Gregory Peck, the 1953 classic is a celebration of love, adventure, and the beauty of Rome.

Fort Stockton FFA Shines at San Antonio and San Angelo Stock Shows

The Fort Stockton FFA chapter has once again demonstrated its excellence at two major state events, earning top honors at the San Antonio Stock Show and the San Angelo Stock Show. Under the leadership of Crystal Galindo, the lead FFA Advisor and Agricultural Science teacher at Fort Stockton High School, students showcased their hard work and dedication, bringing home impressive results.

Voucher bill passes Senate, arrives in House

A bill to implement school vouchers in Texas sailed through the Senate largely on party lines last week and now awaits consideration in the House, the Austin American-Statesman reported. House Speaker Dustin Burrows, RLubbock, said he believes there are enough votes in that chamber to pass the legislation, which was defeated a half-dozen times in 2023 by a coalition of Democratic and rural Republican members.

Hate crime against FSHS athlete I was shown a video of the Tik-Tok about a Greenwood, TX high school sports fan that posted a very disturbing show of a hate crime, a terrorist act and sign of possible school shooter. I worked in Uvalde last year for about 3-4 months and that community was still grieving from their school shooting.

Panther Tennis Team Kicks off the Spring Season

The Fort Stockton Panther Tennis Team made a powerful return to the courts this past weekend, competing in the Uvalde Open, their first tournament of the Spring season. With 13 teams battling for supremacy, the Panthers came out on top, securing an impressive 4th place finish overall.
CUTLINE: Tennis players Allie Gutierrez and Yaneily Mata were a part of the standout performances given by the Fort Stockton Panther Tennis Team during their first tournament of the Spring season, the Uvalde Open.

The Fort Stockton Prowler basketball team wrapped up its season after a challenging playoff game against the Randall Lady Raiders on February 10 in Brownfield, Texas. Despite their determination, the Prowlers fell 69-22, bringing their final season record to 17-17.
