Last week Pecos County accepted a generous donation for the dedication of a plaque, a 203-pound bronze Col. William Barrett Travis 'Victory or Death' Alamo plaque, for the Pecos County Courthouse, in Fort Stockton.
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Partners with Borderlands Research Institute

ALPINE – A new partnership in West Texas will provide additional resources to area landowners seeking assistance in conserving rangelands for both livestock and wildlife. The Borderlands Research Institute at Sul Ross State University in Alpine has partnered with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service to fund a new position that is a joint appointment for both organizations.

Fiddler’s Green – Henry Skillman and Skillman’s Grove

Every August the Bloys Campmeeting, one of the oldest and last of the old-time religious meetings, will gather at a place named Skillman’s Grove for the 100-plus-year-old meeting. I doubt many of the attendees will be familiar with Henry Skillman, his role in the history of West Texas, and how the location of the Bloys Campmeeting came to be named.
