Fiddler’s Green – Indian Emily Returns

Body
FIDDLER’S GREEN When Elton Miles discussed the legend of Indian Emily in his “Tales of the Big Bend,” he stated that he thought the story was not unique to Fort Davis, but he did not refer to any other locations where the story was told or from where it may have originated. In my research, I could find no other antecedents for the tale, but my internet research skills are limited.

Proposed fed rule would protect workers from extreme heat

Body
CAPITAL HIGHLIGHTS Proposed fed rule would protect workers from extreme heat A year after a new state law ended mandatory water breaks in Texas, a proposed federal rule would protect millions of workers from the risks caused by extreme heat, The Texas Tribune reported. The rule would require employers to create plans to prevent heat injuries and illnesses and ensure workers get access to drinking water, rest breaks and control of indoor heat.

Outpatient Decluttering

Body
Because I’m a professional practitioner of the pedagogical arts (known in some parts as fancy book learnin’), I’m privileged to enjoy a Spring Break holiday that usually falls during the same week my semi-grown daughters are also out of school. Back in the good old days when the girls still spoke to me with actual words, we would spend our Spring Breaks together – playing at the park, riding bikes, or sharing the trauma of a Disney character’s parental death scene.

Cat and Dog Fight

Body
I remember the time my wife decided to show a little mercy to a couple of the pets that would hang out in the backyard. She took a small cardboard box and made a little house for our small dog. To our surprise not only did the little dog stay in the box but also the cat. Several days later I went to the back door and threw some small meat scraps toward the box. Some of the scrapes landed in the box. Just as I started to go back in the house the biggest fight broke out between the dog and cat. They rocked that little box all over the patio. The dog wanted (for himself) the meat in the box but the cat that had been sleeping quietly did not want to give up his sleeping area. Seeing that fight reminded me of one of the biggest problems that we face in life. It is part of natural man and It is called selfishness (Galatians 5:19-21, James 4:1&2). It causes most problems in marriages, personal relationships and ultimately with God. (Philippians 2:3, 2 Corinthians 12:20). Tells us to not have it in our lives or remove it. It takes the power of God in our lives to remove and overcome selfishness (Galatians 5:16, 22-26). The only true successful way is by accepting Christ and then letting Him take control (John 1:12, Galatians 5:24&25).
