Fort Stockton’s ‘Oldest House,’ located at the corner of South Nelson and West Sherer Streets has long been considered the oldest building in Fort Stockton, dating to the mid-1850s. The crumbling Adobe structure – which the city built an aluminum roof over to preserve what’s left – has been listed as a tourist attraction, but the area is inaccessible and seldom visited. The actual age of the structure is in doubt, and a group of archaeologists descended on the structure Feb. 24 in hopes of finding clues to put those doubts to rest.
