Dear Neil: How long do I have to wait to know if my lavender lantanas are going to come back after the winter? Trailing lavender lantanas are perhaps the least winter-hardy types that we grow. It doesn't take a very harsh Texas winter to kill out their crowns.

Fort Stockton remembers Preston

Friends and family gathered at Officers’ Quarters #8 at the Old Fort on Saturday, March 9, 2024 to celebrate and memorialize the life of Robert Paul Preston. Robert passed away on Feb. 19, 2024 after a brief stay in the hospital. The memorial was marked with a gun and cannon salute from historical reenactors after the flag was flown at halfstaff. City raises building registration fees, sets public hearing for annexation request

The Fort Stockton city council met in regular session Monday evening and voted to raise building code fees and set the first public hearing for an annexation request by Texas New Mexico Power. The fee required to register to build had been $75 for the initial registration and $50 for renewal, but the new fees will be $100 for renewal and $125 for initial registration.

Comanche Springs Rodeo returns with more family fun March 21-23

Fort Stockton will kick off the spring season the right way with the annual Comanche Springs Rodeo March 21-23 at the Pecos County Coliseum in Fort Stockton. Begun in 2019 and paused for Covid in 2020, the rodeo has grown since its 2021 return and is adding some more activities in 2024.
