The Fort Stockton Independent School District has created a plan for campus improvements across the district, part of which includes playground improvements at campuses such as Apache and Alamo Elementary Schools. But the district has hit a snag at Alamo.

The Fort Stockton City Council on Jan. 22 decided to reject a proposal for a shade awning at the Hodges Pavilion adjacent to the Fort Stockton Convention Center. The city received a bid from Triple R Welding for $41,266 and from L.T. Construction for $64,447.71.

GARDENER’S MAILBAG Dear Neil: After reading your helpful advice for a long while I now fear I need some personally. I had a relatively minor limb cut from my pecan tree less than one year ago.

The Fort Stockton High School boys powerlifters traveled to Andrews on Saturday and put up some good numbers despite only coming home with one medal. Christian Dominguez earned fifth place in his weight class. The boys look to improve their numbers on Thursday when they travel to Seminole.

Aundre Washington and Diego Ronquillo each scored 13 points as the Fort Stockton Panthers led from start to finish in a 66-53 win over Pecos last Friday for their first district win. After getting off to an energetic and solid start that got the crowd engaged, the Panthers made a few unforced errors that allowed Pecos to gain the momentum.

The Fort Stockton High School Prowler softball program took 16 student athletes to Midland and scrimmaged Lubbock Coronado and Alpine last Saturday. “Like any first scrimmage there will be rust and some communication issues,” said coach Robby Glasscock.

The Pecos Lady Eagles entered last Friday’s District 3-4A matchup as the district’s cellar-dweller at 4-15 overall and winless in district play fresh off a 108-5 loss to Seminole, but a second half surge lifted Pecos to a 46-45 win over Fort Stockton, as the Prowlers did not score a field goal in the fourth quarter. The Prowlers led 30-19 at halftime as senior Sophia Hernandez dominated underneath in her return to action after missing much of the season with an injury.
