County replaces Coyanosa Fire with Fort Stockton

The number of Fort Stockton Volunteer Firefighters who work in Coyanosa has prompted the recommendation by Pecos County to add a substation of the Fort Stockton Fire Department to the Coyanosa area. “They’ve got about six or seven employees who work in the Coyanosa area,” said county judge Joe Shuster.

Report: Jobs, unemployment up in county

The economic outlook is good for Fort Stockton and Pecos County, according to Economic Development Director Remie Ramos. Ramos gave his quarterly report to the Fort Stockton City Council on Monday and said that while the number of jobs in the county increased between April and June, unemployment also increased slightly. The unemployment rate is up at the state, Federal and regional level, as well, Ramos said.

Scholarship fundraiser launched for BRI grad students

Permian Basin Area Foundation kickstarts effort with $15,000 Challenge Borderlands Research Institute (BRI) at Sul Ross State University in Alpine is launching a scholarship fundraiser for its graduate students. The fundraising goal is $50,000 with all proceeds going directly to scholarships for students working on conservation research for their master’s degree.

The Pecos County Memorial Hospital (PCMH) and Fort Stockton Independent School District (FSISD) are working together to make sure students have the opportunity to receive their required vaccinations before school starts on Monday, Aug. 14.
