Holiday auction benefits students

The Xi Zeta Lambda sorority held its annual holiday auction on Nov. 17 at the Fort Stockton Community Theater building. The annual auction brought in dozens of individuals who bid on holiday-themed items. All money raised in the auction goes towards a scholarship for Fort Stockton High School graduates.

A flavorful brine and slow cook over natural wood make this a sure fire hit. BRINE INGREDIENTS: • 1 gallon vegetable broth • 3/4 cup kosher salt • 1/4 cup brown sugar • 4 tbsp your favorite barbecue dry rub seasoning • Additional ingredients: • 12-14 pound turkey • 1 cup yellow mustard • 1 cup barbecue dry rub seasoning DIRECTIONS Heat all ingredients over medium heat until dissolved and well blended.

GUEST COLUMNIST The whole concept of a bed and breakfast is pretty ingenious and fits almost perfectly with my lifestyle. In fact, the words “bed” and “breakfast” are fair representations of my favorite activities, namely eating, sleeping and eating.

GUEST COLUMNIST Is the glass half empty or half full? In my experience it’s always been half full -- and that’s one of many things I am thankful for this Thanksgiving. We lost my father this year, and that leaves a huge hole in our hearts — until we focus on the life he lived so well and the many wonderful, loving memories of him my family and I will always have.
