Pecos County, Terrell County enter into aid agreement

The Pecos County Commissioners Court on Nov. 28 approved a mutual aid agreement between the Pecos County Sheriff’s Department and the Terrell County Sheriff’s Department. Terrell County, which borders Pecos County to the east and Mexico to the south, has had a high increase in illegal immigrants coming through the county.

Production of "A Christmas Story" begins Dec. 8 at FSCT

The Paisano Players’ production of “A Christmas Story,” adapted by Phillip Grecian and directed by Reba Subia and Staci Schoenfeldt will be Thursday, Dec. 8, at 7:00 p.m. at The Nelson Street Theatre, 102 South Nelson. Other performances will be Friday, Dec. 9 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 10 and 11 at 2:00 p.m.

County gives half-a-million to PCMH

The Pecos County Commissioner’s Court on Nov. 28 declared an emergency and fronted Pecos County Memorial Hospital an additional $550,000 in operating funds. Hospital CEO Betsy Briscoe said the hospital will need the funds to cover payroll on Dec. 7.

Dear Neil: We applied the pre-emergent as you recommended last spring. It helped a great deal with this year’s lawn through the summer (until the drought). We intended to apply it again two weeks before the average date of the first killing freeze this fall, as per your book, but we had an early first freeze and never got it down until recently. Have we wasted our money?

Mendoza to fight on Triller card in South Korea

West Texas native and undefeated boxer Abel Mendoza (35-0) will fight next on Dec. 10 in Seoul, South Korea on a Triller Fight Club-produced fight card that is headlined by former eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao. Mendoza relayed the news to the Pioneer on Nov. 18. While his opponent has yet to be determined, Mendoza plans to finish his fight camp in San Diego with his longtime coach Gilbert “Dinamitts” Roybal before flying to Asia to compete in a 130-pound bout. Mendoza added that his hopes to fight Pacquiao in the near future and a potential world title.
