Second Annual Kids Kows and More

The Pecos County AgriLife Extension/4-H hosted the Second Annual Kids Kows and More program on April 28 at the Pecos County Coliseum. Over 400 students from the Fort Stockton Christian Academy, Apache Elementary, Buena Vista ISD, Grand Falls ISD, and the Fort Stockton Home School Association attended. The Program is designed to educate the youth in agriculture and how it effects our daily lives. Students rotated between various stations every 20 minutes to learn about a new topic. The stations were: mobile dairy, wool, honey bees, livestock, beef cattle, rainfall simulator, snake and predator safety. “I would like to acknowledge some sponsors that helped with the success of the program: Trans Pecos Natural Resource Conservation Service, Pecos Reeves Farm Burrough, Marfa Meats, Mobile Dairy, West of The Pecos Texas Cattle Women Association, Pecos County 4H, Reeves County 4H and Ward County 4H,” said Payton Kiefer, Agricultural & Natural Resources/4-H agent said. Late rally propels Prowlers past Riverside in 4A playoffs

Determination and positivity – the mentalities were exemplified all season by the Prowlers softball team and were consistent parts of the team’s path from a program who won a few games a season ago to a postseason appearance in 2022.

The program turnaround under first-year head coach Darrian Roberson came full circle on April 30 against Riverside in their 4A Bi-District playoff matchup in Van Horn.

Buena Vista qualifies 3 for state track meet

Buena Vista returning state track and field medalists Mariana Sanchez and Cole Brauchi will have an opportunity to put an exclamation point on the end of their high school careers as Longhorns in Class 1A at the UIL State Track & Field Championships on May 14.

FSHS Stem Club finishes strong at state competition

Fort Stockton High School students participated in a state-level competition for TAME, the Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering on April 30.

The students were among the few that qualified through March's divisional competition at Odessa College.

Using the engineering design process, they were tasked with designing and constructing a prototype for an as-yet impossible technology—a space elevator. Saturday consisted of further recognition of their prowess.

Midland College/WRTTC hosts pinning ceremony

Midland College/WRTTC in Fort Stockton held a pinning ceremony at Nelson Street Theatre for their recent certified nursing assistant graduates. Assistant Professor of Health Sciences, Linda Esquivel, presented each of the graduates with a CNA certificate before the group photo. CNA’s who received their pins were Rachel Benavides, Janessa Coronado, Katarina Jimenez, Yuri Leyva, Alexis Lozano, Clarissa Luevano, Bertha Marquez, Yasmine Olivas, Jazlyn Pacheco, and Michaela Serrano.

Inmate Arrests Report – Pecos County Jail (April 26-May 3)

David Romero-Ronquillo, of Fort Stockton at 2:46 p.m., officers from the Fort Stockton Police Department apprehended Ronquillo on a failure to appear warrant (Ector County) form criminal mischief more than or equal to $100 less than $750. Romero received a $5,000 cash bond and is still in jail.

Fort Stockton ISD School Board honored by TREA

Out of the 392 school districts that are members of the Texas Rural Education Association, the Fort Stockton Independent School District School Board was selected as the winner of the School Board of the Year award for the 2021-2022 school year.

TREA released the news yesterday evening after narrowing the top school board nominations down to five leading up to the decision.

Dr. Garbriel Zamora officially became the superintendent of the Fort Stockton Independent School District on May 27, 2021, at the school board’s special meeting held at the school’s administration building. Fort Stockton track shows potential at 4A Region I meet

A number of Panther and Prowler athletes put forth their best performances of the season at the 4A Region I Track and Field meet at Lowrey Field in Lubbock to conclude their 2022 campaign last weekend.

Fort Stockton finished the two-day event on April 29-30 with no state qualifiers but showed the future of the program has plenty of promise in the years ahead.
