Historic jail, Sibley-Rollins House available for tours

Three historic properties in Fort Stockton were recently made available for tours during weekdays by way of the Pecos County Historical Commission. Three weeks ago, the commission opened the Historic Pecos County Jail, Sibley-Rollins House, and the Hovey School to the public for free tours.

Cope performs in Fort Stockton

Recording artist Charlie Cope performed at the Annie Riggs Museum in Fort Stockton on April 1. The one-time “Spring off the Patio” event had over 30 people in attendance and was a prelude to the Summer Off the Patio series that will begin at the museum on Thursday, May 26. Cope’s brand of americana music is formed from an array of genres including Rock, Country, Red Dirt, Folk, Soul, Pop, Blues, RnB, Bluegrass. Miguel Rivera, Director of Maintenance at the Fort Stockton Independent School District, claimed the “Be the Standard” award at the district’s board meeting on March 28. The award is given to a staff member who attends the most events and activities in a calendar month.

Joe's Place holds grand opening

Joe’s Place and owner Joe Espino held a ribbon cutting ceremony on April at the bar’s location in downtown Fort Stockton. The ceremony, which was hosted by the Fort Stockton Chamber of Commerce, represented the business’ official grand opening and membership acceptance to the chamber. The bar, located at 216 W. First St., held its soft opening on Feb. 25 and has since been open on Friday and Saturday evenings. Photo by Nathan Heuer
