The local Walmart parking lot is frequented by the common shopper, electric vehicle driver, overnight camper, and of course, the savvy folks who pick up online orders. The Wells family from Wisconsin would be listed among the overnight campers, and have returned to Walmart in their vibrant school bus.

Lions Recycle for Sight

The Fort Stockton Lions Club began collecting eyeglasses at various businesses throughout town this past week for individuals who cannot afford them. The club has set out boxes at the listed locations for eyeglass donations: State Farm, Walmart, Lowe’s, McCoy’s, First National Bank, 1st Community Fed Credit Union, Tractor Supply, West Texas Eye Care, The Glam Station. The glasses will be collected and taken to the eye glass recycling center and given to children and adults who cannot afford them. Midland College takes part in Free Cone Day

Midland College Student Recruiter and Academic Advisor Andres Madrid, right, represented the college at Dairy Queen’s Free Cone Day on March 21. Madrid provided information about the college and what program/courses they offer to the youth of Fort Stockton who were interested. Panthers cruise to team title

The Fort Stockton girls track team put together their best performance of the season on March 19 at the Fightin’ Bucks Relays with 12 personal records being set by the Prowlers in route to a second-place finish as a team.

CVB Board drops to nine members, street fixture plans presented

The Fort Stockton City Council unanimously approved a change to Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Board by-laws on March 14 at the group’s regular meeting.

The city council approved the resignation CVB board members of Jordan Gonzales and Heather Noah at the meeting and as a result, the board will now consist of nine people instead of 11.

The board was previously at seven people in years past but grew to 11 people after the Fort Stockton Downtown Association officially dissolved last year.

Entities agree on intent for new recreation center

The intent of building a new recreation facility in Fort Stockton has officially been agreed to – contingent upon funding approval.

The Fort Stockton City Council, Pecos County Commissioners, and the Fort Stockton Independent School District School Board gathered at the county’s courthouse on March 17 for an intergovernmental meeting.
