New Coyanosa Community Center nearing completion

The new $1.2 million Coyanosa Community Center will soon be open to public this upcoming year. Pecos County Judge Joe Shuster said at Monday’s commissioners meeting that the fa cility will likely be complete by the end of January and a grand opening will soon follow.

The Fort Stockton Insurance Agency will celebrate its 110-year anniversary with an open house social on Dec. 30 from 4-7 p.m. at their newly renovated office on 901 W. Dickinson Blvd. The event will feature food from two of the top food trucks in town in Billys Phillies and Z Fustion Twist. Refreshments will be provided. CDC changes quarantine guidelines

Changes in quarantine time after testing positive for COVID-19 in Pecos County could soon be shorter. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention announced on Monday that their guidelines for quarantine time changed from 10 days to five days due to the nature of Omicron variant.

New Years Day is quite possibly the most positive, forward-looking holiday we celebrate. We say goodbye to the past, and turn our attention to the good that the coming year promises. Ninety-five percent of the population will be eating pork, sauerkraut, and black eyed peas for good luck on New Years Day. Many of us make New Year’s resolutions for positive change, such as quitting smoking, losing weight, or pursuing a dream career. New Year’s Day brings with it the chance to start fresh.

December 2000 issue: Templo Hossana Pentecostal Church on Sanderson Highway (285) has a new pastor. Johnny Almanza was appointed as the new pastor and has been leading the congregation since mid October. Almanza moved to Fort Stockton with his wife Cecilia and their three children to accept this position. Their son Erby is 12, and attending sixth grade at the middle school; daughters Ashley, age four, and Irene, age five, both attend Fort Stockton Head Start.

Steve Oliver rolled into Fort Stockton looking as cool as a cucumber. Exiting his bright red Mercedes Sprinter wearing a cowboy hat and scarf, he said, “We’re headed out to Wolf Creek in Pagosa Springs, Colorado.”

Former Pecos County Memorial Hospital Board Members Dwayne Bonham and Delilia Urias were recognized for their years of service on the hospital board at the group’s regular meeting on Dec. 21 at PCMH.
