Fort Stockton graduate make Sam Houston State Dean’s List

Body

James Thornton of Fort Stockton was named to the Sam Houston State University Dean’s List for this past spring semester.

The students listed on the Dean's List of Academic Honors at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, are undergraduates who have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.5 out of a perfect 4.0 in all work attempted while enrolled in not less than 12 semester hours.

Virtual public meeting focuses on highway 18 in Ward/Pecos Counties

Body

The Odessa District of TxDOT has scheduled a virtual public meeting regarding proposed improvements to Highway 18 in Ward and Pecos Counties. The virtual public meeting is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2021. Following the virtual public meeting, the presentation will remain available for viewing through Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021.

Photo, plaque donation honor Gomez at FSHS

David “Tex” Gomez’s memory will live on at his alma mater, Fort Stockton High School, with a historical display that could encourage students to follow their dreams. His family donated a framed photograph of President Harry Truman to the school on July 16, along with a plaque to honor Gomez and a promise to further add to the display in years to come.

Gabriella Renteria was crowned Miss Fort Stockton 2021 on July 17 after the final showing of the Water Carnival. Renteria was one crowned by Miss Fort Stockton 2020 Katie Salmon. Renteria was one of six contestants who competed in the Miss Fort Stockton pageant. Other competitors includes Alyana Dominguez, Ysabella Sanchez, Izabella Diaz, Serena Quiroz, Gabriela Galindo. FSISD to receive $4.9 million in federal funding
