There’s never been a polar bear reported in Fort Stockton, but a large white Samoyed could play tricks on the eyes from a distance. Pulling into Fort Stockton with the distinguishable breed, David Gonzales of San Antonio was more than happy to talk about his fluffy friend.

Fort Stockton Independent School Board Members Flo Garcia III and Ursula Sanchez took an oath of office at the school board meeting on May 24 at the district’s administration office. Sanchez is a new member and elected in an uncontested race, replacing 15-year board member Tom Ezell. Garcia was originally elected in 2015 and will be up for reelection in 2024. Prowlers named to all-district team

A total of six Prowler softball players were named to the District 2- 4A All-District teams this past weekend. Fort Stockton junior Alyana Dominguez was the lone first-team selection, being named to the squad as a catcher.

Department of Homeland Security boss Alejandro Mayorkas recently patted himself on the back for a sharp reduction of illegal alien minors in DHS custody. But the Associated Press reports the number of migrant children in government detention more than doubled to 21,000 in the past two months.

Dorothea Ferrante passed away in Mesquite, Texas, on Feb. 5, 2021, at the age of 99 from complications of COVID-19. She was born in Owensboro, Ky., on May 31, 1921, to Ruth Knight Norris and Elmer Norris.

Williams finishes in top 15

One of the best to ever do it on a golf course at Fort Stockton High School had his career come to an end on May 18 at Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle. Alex Williams tied for 14th place out of a field of 72 golfers at the Class 4A state meet after a dominant season that featured a runner-up performance at regionals and a firstplace finish at districts.
