SHEEP DOG TRIALS

The Texas Sheep Dog Association hosted a USBCHA & TSDA sanctioned trial competit’on from Feb. 10-12 in Fort Stockton at the gun club located off 1-10 exit 261. Over 50 dogs competed at the event in 11 different divisions. All or most of the dogs were border collies. Faansie Basson’s dog, Jack, was the lone two-division champion of the event. Other dogs that placed first included: Rose Anderson’s, Merrick; Donna Walker’s, Colt and Mac; Russel McCord’s, Sally; Ron Enzeroth’s, Dime. The event was cut two days short due to winter weather that moved into the area late Thursday evening into Friday morning. Photos by Nathan Heuer

Feb. 14, 1980 Issue: RIBBON CUTTING AT NEW CARPET STORE . . . The new home of Urias Floor Coverings, 101 S. Main, celebrated its grand opening Friday afternoon with a ribbon-cutting held inside the store. Owners of the business, Mr. and Mrs. Humberto Urias (center, with scissors) did the cutting honors as members of the Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and employees of the business watched. In ins new downtown location Urias Floor Coverings has a modern showroom featuring many name-brand carpets and floor coverings.

He is constantly providing new and different opportunities for us to learn new trades and skills.

MAMA WON’T FLY

The cast of Fort Stockton Community Theatre’s production of “Mama Won’t Fly” invites everyone to make reservations for one of the five performances, starting on Friday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. The play will also run from Feb. 22. There will be a matinee at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 21. The comedy is written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten. Plan for an evening or afternoon of fun and call 336-3180 for reservations. The slapstick comedy is directed by Alice Duerksen and stars, in order of appearance, Pam Palileo, Penny Smith, Michelle Salazar, Kirby Warnock, Tracy Alexander, Michele Huckaby, Oralia Hall, Dean Duerksen, Frank Lacy, and a mystery guest star.
