The Prowler powerlifting team is headed to state.

The dominant eight-lifter squad earned third place as a team at their regional powerlifting meet in Monahans on March 5 behind a record-setting performance by Tori Wilkins.

Wilkins recorded a threelift (bench, squat, deadlift) total of 1,090 pounds in her respective weight class to finish with an individual gold medal.

Izabella Diaz and Yadira Hernandez also garnered first-place finishes for the Prowlers.

Gabriella Renteria, Rosa Hernandez, Alyssa Rangel and Livia Lujan placed second in their respective weight classes.

The Prowlers will be taking eight girls to the state powerlifting meet held in Corpus Christ on Friday, March 18.

Rosa Hernandez, Rangel, Renteria, Yadira Hernandez, Lujan, Beverly Baeza, Diaz and Wilkins will be representing the Fort Stockton at the state meet.

Panthers conclude season at regionals

The Fort Stockton boys powerlifting team had their season come to an end on Friday at the conclusion of the regional meet in Sundown, Texas on March 8.

Panthers powerlifting head coach Jeremy Boatright was proud of his group and noted his group made substantial progress during the season.

Quaylon Rios highlighted the Panthers’ performances with a 340-pound deadlift in the 113-pound weight class – a weight that is three times greater than his body weight.

“Rios was the standout lifter for the Panthers having a terrific day hitting personal best in all his lifts,” Boatright said. “All the Panthers should be extremely proud of their efforts. My lifters gave it all they had with a go big or go home attitude.”
