The Darrian Roberson era is eight days away from officially beginning for the Prowlers softball team.

The first-year head coach took her non-basketball athletes, who have been practicing for three weeks, to their first scrimmage of the season on Feb. 5.

Fort Stockton opened the contested practices in Alpine with a 10-0 victory against Midland Christian.

“Freshman pitcher Kriselda Porras pitched a great first half of the game and Freshman Alondra Molina closed the game strong,” Roberson said.

The Prowlers came up short in a 5-3 loss to Alpine to close out the day.

“Although they came up short, they played very hard,” Roberson added.

The head coach noted that Aryanna Gonzalez started on the mound and had a very good performance. Porras was the closer for Saturday’s bout on the mound, finishing the game strong according to her head coach.

Senior Anaih Montoya had a great day at the plate.

“At a very crucial time in the game she came up and knocked runs in while crediting herself with a standup triple,” Roberson said. “The Prowler softball team played very well, we can see what we need to improve on and the things we need to keep pushing forward with.”

Fort Stockton’s first regular season game is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 15 in Fort Stockton.

Fort Stockton came up short but showed some promise with a short-handed team on Feb. 7 at home against Lamesa.

The Prowlers lost their first home competition of the preseason 9-0.

Roberson noted that Porras had another strong showing on the mound and Aislynn Robledo showed discipline at the plate by recording a great hit to right field before it was snagged for an out.

“We have a lot of things to improve on and get better at, but we are focusing on the little victories which will lead to bigger and greater things,” she said.
