Perez, Norman open season with titles at Greenwood Relays
The Fort Stockton Panthers track team put their best foot forward in their season-opening track meet on Feb. 18 at the Greenwood Relays.
Fabian Perez captured a title in the 1,600-meter run and Kye Norman placed first in the 300 hurdles, leading their team to a second-place finish – only three points behind the champion Big Spring.
Perez finished the race in 4 minutes 45.65 seconds while Norman finished his race in 47.87 seconds.
The Panthers scored in every event they entered on Friday.
Senior Elijah Escajeda earned a silver medal in the shot put (43 feet 5 inches) and the discus (120-1).
Sophomore Aryan Hernandez placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 43 feet 11 1/2 inches.
Bronze medalists included: Miguel Trejo (100-meter dash), Her-nandez (400), Caleb Garcia (high jump, triple jump), 1,600 relay (Trejo, Jesus Hernandez, Marco Garcia, Caleb Garcia).
Fourth-place finishers were Trejo (200), Perez (800), and Connor Miller (pole vault).

The junior varsity Panthers track team also earned second place in their respective team race.
