Panther Powerlifting: Sanchez qualifies for state
Fort Stockton senior Justin Sanchez punched his ticket to the state powerlifting meet and set a record in the process during the Panthers’ regional meet on March 10 in Abilene.
Sanchez, who competed in the 198-pound division, set the regional bench press record at 410 pounds and had a three-lift total of 1,435 pounds – surpassing the state-qualifying mark by 35 pounds.
Jovany Hernandez placed sixth in the 181-pound division, Leeland Ibarra took seventh place in the 148-pound division, and Oasis Webb took ninth in the 308-pound division.
Christian Dominguez (132 pounds) and Jose Hernandez (181 pounds) also competed for the Panthers at the meet.
According to head coach Benny Ellison, each lifter recorded at least two personal records each during their three lifts.
