The Fort Stockton Middle School Blue Wave swimmers kicked off their season in big way this past weekend, sending 32 swimmers to Pecos.

“All swimmers performed excellently in their respective events,” coach Lilly Forst said. “This is the biggest Blue Wave team since its debut in 2016.”

According to Forst, the highlight for her team was the give girls who each broke the school record in the 50-yard backstroke. The girls were: Carla Vasquez, Alexis Rodriguez, Cydneii Ramirez, Dustee Dale, and Sofia Garcia.

Garcia now is the record- holder of the event with a time of 43.35, a mark that beat the previous record by 6.5 seconds.

Garcia broke the record as a part of the 200 medley relay.
