Fort Stockton JV 12 El Paso Horizon 8

Ejay Ortiz scored both of Fort Stockton’s touchdowns and Darien Renteria accumulated a team-high three sacks in the junior varsity Panthers win over El Paso Horizon on Sept. 8.

The victory moved the Panthers record to 3-0 this season.

Ortiz scored his touchdowns on an 11-yard and 7-yard runs.

Defensively, Acosta had 1 ½ sacks and four tackles for the Panthers Fabien Silva had a team-high eight tackles and a tackle for loss.

The Panthers held the Scorpions to 120 yards of total offense.

Next up, the Panthers will head to Crane to face the Golden Cranes on Sept. 15 at 6:30 p.m.

Fort Stockton Freshman 29 El Paso Horizon 0

The Panthers freshman squad continued their dominance on the gridiron on Sept. 8 against El Paso Horizon.

Gerry Diaz added a pair of touchdowns to his impressive resume this season – one passing TD and one running TD – and Jose Galindo found the endzone on a pair of runs to lead their team to a victory.

Diaz connected with Nick Almendariz on an 8-yard TD pass for an early 6-0 lead.

The ensuing possession, Galindo scored on a 29-yard run and later on a 4-yard trot.

Diaz closed out the first half with a 38-yard TD run to give the Panthers a 21-0 lead at the break.

Freshman coach Lea Daggett was impressed by his team’s defense in route to a victory.

“Our defense played a great game by only allowing Horizon two first downs and very few yards,” he said.

The freshman team has a 3-0 record heading into Thursday’s game at Greenwood starting at 4:30 p.m.
