Five individuals, two relays win titles at Sandhills Relays
Fabian Perez, Zane Hodges, and Ali Jackson have undefeated streaks are still intact.
The standout track trio for Fort Stockton continued to blaze paths to more gold medals on March 4 in Monahans at the Sandhills Relays while defending titles in their strong-suited events.
Perez claimed his third consecutive gold medal in three outings this season in the 3,200-meter run on Friday. The junior clocked a time of 10 minutes 13.79 seconds in the race and added a silver medal in the 1,600 (4:46.12) by cutting more than a second off his time from the Comanche Relays a week prior.
Hodges won the 300 hurdles for the second consecutive week, finishing the race in 42.51 seconds. The junior garnered another gold medal in the 110 hurdles (16.83), a bronze medal in the long jump (19 feet 4 1/2 inches), and a fifth-place finish in the high jump (5-6).
The performances led Fort Stockton to a secondplace finish as a team – only 19 points behind champion Midland Legacy at the seven-team meet.
Jackson crossed the finish line in first place in the 800 and 400 for the second consecutive week. The sophomore ran a personal best 1:01 in the 400 and won the 800 in 2:24. Jackson added a third-place finish in the 200 (27.99).
She led the Prowlers to a fifth-place finish as a team.
The highfliers of Fort Stockton High School – Caleb Garcia and Aryan Hernandez – leaped their way to gold in the long and triple jump. Garcia won the triple jump (43-7 1/2) and Hernandez won the long jump with a season-best mark (20-7).
The duo teamed up to earn two additional gold medals in the 400 relay and 1,600 relay. Hernandez capped his four-medal day with a second-place finish in the triple jump (42-1).
Fort Stockton’s 400 relay (Miguel Trejo, Dominic Aguilar, Garcia, Hernandez) cut their time by more than second from the week prior to finish in first place in a time of 43.67.
Aryan Hernandez and Garcia were joined by Kye Norman and Jesus Hernandez in the 1,600 relay that took first place in 3:32.89.
Runner-up finishers for the boys included Trejo in the 100 and the 800 relay that featured Aguilar, Trejo, Aryan Hernandez, Garcia.
Outside of Jackson’s performance for the Prowlers, the 800-relay team (Estrella Aguilar, Yaneli Caballero, Priscilla Trevino, Gabriela Renteria) had the highest placement by finishing fourth in 1:56.
