Blue Wave swimmers show improvement at Andrews Invitational
Fort Stockton High School’s Blue Wave swimmers returned to the water after the holiday break with a trip to Andrews, where the team impressed with improved times.
The finals took place Jan. 7, where the girls medley relay team of Ella O’Tierney, Paige Williams, Arissa Jimenez and Aviana Vargas placed in the event, dropping a full second off their time.
The boys medley relay team of Rylan Jimenez, Eric Gonzalez, Luke Pules and Daniel Perez also placed in Saturday’s final with a 4.25 second improvement in their time.
In the 50-yard freestyle, senior Arissa Jimenez tallied points for the girl’s team, and both sophomore Rylan Jimenez, and senior Eric Gonzalez scored for the blue wave team in the boys 50-yard freestyle. Arissa Jimenez also won her heat in the 100-yard freestyle by two seconds.
The girls 200 free relay team of Arissa Jimenez, Williams, O’Tierney and Zeeta Celaya improved by 5.26 seconds, placing in the finals.
Gonzalez, Perez, Pules and Rylan Jimenez placed in the scoring after a 4.28 second improvement.
In Friday’s preliminary races and individuals who competed in the finals, several swimmers showed much improvement but didn’t reach the finals according to coach Michael Dupre.
Paige Williams dropped over one second off her time in the 50 free, as did Aviana Vargas.
Freshman Andrew Black had a competitive race to improve his time by two seconds in the 50 free.
O’Tierney dropped eight seconds off her time in the 100 backstroke to complete the competition for the Blue Wave swimmers.
The next meet for Fort Stockton will be the district meet on Friday, Jan. 20 in Pecos at noon.
