‘Lived experience’: Is it right for you?

Body
“I’ve looked at life from MY side now…” I can imagine Joni Mitchell singing those modified lyrics every time I encounter one of today’s most grating phrases. The phrase: “my lived experience.” Every time some blowhard wants to identify as an expert and shut down all dissent, they appeal to their years (or months or weeks or that one time at the truck stop when the soap dispensers were almost empty) of “lived experience.” You know the drill.

Things AI can’t do

Goldman Sachs predicts artificial intelligence may displace up to 300 million jobs by 2027. Of course, I acquired that information from AI, so I have no idea if it’s true or if AI is just trying to bully me into making friends with it so it won’t render me as obsolete at work as I am at home.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor, We extend our sincere gratitude for Fort Stockton’s support, particularly in light of our recent efforts to assist with the flood-affected areas and provide care for pregnant canines at risk of euthanasia due to abandonment, a situation entirely beyond their control. Please consider donating or volunteering your time! We’re growing and need help to save these animals! Our goal to raise $600,000 for a new facility is on the way! We’re raising money through grant opportunities and private donors.

Dear Editor, I am writing to find out why this music is getting so very bad in our town and disturbing some people, especially the poor sick children and the elderly. They can hear it in their own homes and now their vehicles that go down the streets with loud music and even play music with ugly words in it.

Turning Grief into Action

After the tragic floods in Central Texas, I was honored to be appointed to the Senate Select Committee on Disaster Preparedness and Flooding. Since the floods took place, we traveled to Kerrville and other communities scarred by loss. We sat with families who had lost loved ones and homes, first responders who risked their lives, and local officials left to pick up the pieces. We heard about outdated systems, late warnings, and plans that weren’t ready when disaster struck.

Shall we welcome back memories of fall 1975 TV?

Body
“Welcome back, your dreams were your ticket out…” – John Sebastian The fall 1975 TV season remains special for me for several reasons. For one thing, it’s when I began my life’s mission of collecting Fall Preview issues of “TV Guide.” The 1975-1990 issues stayed neatly stacked in one location, but since then, life has gotten messier.

Dear Community Leaders, I am writing with deep concern about how the barrio in Fort Stockton is treated, especially in connection with Barrio Fest. While the festival is a wonderful celebration of our culture and history, it is disheartening that the neighborhood only receives attention when tourists are expected to visit. Streets are swept, trash is removed, and the area is temporarily made to look like it is cared for—but once the event is over, the day-to-day neglect quickly returns.
