MAMA WON’T FLY

The cast of Fort Stockton Community Theatre’s production of “Mama Won’t Fly” invites everyone to make reservations for one of the five performances, starting on Friday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. The play will also run from Feb. 22. There will be a matinee at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 21. The comedy is written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten. Plan for an evening or afternoon of fun and call 336-3180 for reservations. Land Office launches Texas Defense Task Force

On Feb. 8 Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush announced formation of the Texas Defense Task Force within the General Land Office, with the mission to identify federal overreach and fend off threats to the Texas oil and gas economy.

Hoff now U.S. attorney for the Western District

On Jan. 26, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas appointed Ashley Chapman Hoff as U.S. Attorney effective Jan. 25. U.S. District Judge Robert Pitman administered the oath of office to Hoff at the federal courthouse in Austin.

SHEEP DOG TRIALS

The Texas Sheep Dog Association hosted a USBCHA & TSDA sanctioned trial competit’on from Feb. 10-12 in Fort Stockton at the gun club located off 1-10 exit 261. Over 50 dogs competed at the event in 11 different divisions. All or most of the dogs were border collies. Faansie Basson’s dog, Jack, was the lone two-division champion of the event. Other dogs that placed first included: Rose Anderson’s, Merrick; Donna Walker’s, Colt and Mac; Russel McCord’s, Sally; Ron Enzeroth’s, Dime. Gonzales, Morales host Q&A sessions at Pecos County Courthouse

Congressman of District 23, Tony Gonzales, and State Representative of District 74, Eddie Morales visited Fort Stockton and hosted question and answer sessions last week at the Pecos County Courthouse.

Congressman (District 23) Tony Gonzales participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, Feb. 10, marking the official opening of his Fort Stockton district office at the Pecos County Courthouse. Gonzales’ Regional District Director, Jalen Falcon, will be working out of the office. Grid operator restores more power overnight

The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) stated on Wednesday, Feb. 17 in a news release that they continue to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. During the overnight hours, ERCOT was able to restore approximately 3,500 MW of load, which is roughly 700,000 households.

"We know millions of people are suffering," said ERCOT President and CEO Bill Magness. "We have no other priority than getting them electricity. No other priority."

3,000 households lose power in Pecos County as frigid temperatures force outages

A total of 3,000 households in Pecos County lost power on Monday, Feb. 15 according to Pecos County Emergency Management Coordinator Jessie Dominguez.

The outage was due to historically low temperatures that forced the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to start rotating outages at 1:25 a.m. Monday morning across the state.

Dominguez also noted that local electric companies are not at fault for the outages as the rotating outages were solely decided by ERCOT.

Fort Stockton woman dies in rollover crash

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported on Sunday that a 40-year-old Fort Stockton woman died in a rollover accident on Friday, Feb. 12 on U.S Highway 67 at mile marker 810 – 26 miles northeast of Fort Stockton.

Lorena Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-car crash that happened at 6:55 a.m.

This property tax information is current and covers a wide range of topics, such as taxpayer remedies, exemptions and appraisals, and is of value to select groups, such as disabled veterans and persons who are age 65 or older.
