The COVID-19 active case total in Pecos County continued to rise yesterday as the number hit a five-month high on Tuesday according to a report provided by the county’s emergency management coordinator Jessie Dominguez.
There are currently 14 active cases in the county – the highest total since Feb. 16 (165 days ago). Of the 14 active cases, only two were vaccinated.

Heading into Monday, there were three active cases and that number increased by five due to seven positive tests.
Buena Vista ISD announced its policy on Aug. 2 that this school year, healthy meals will be offered every school day to all students at no cost. Typically, a student’s household must meet income eligibility requirements to qualify for free or reduced-price meals. However, the USDA issued guidance that allows schools to offer meals to all students at no cost for the 2021-2022 school year.
The Fort Stockton ISD student registration will begin in-person and online on Aug. 4 at 9 a.m. finish on Saturday, Aug. 7, ending at 2 p.m.
The district encourages parents to use online registration for all students – new and returning – at the district’s webpage https://www.fsisd.net/2021Registration.

The Fort Stockton Independent School District will be returning to 100% face-to-face instruction for the 2021-2022 school year. Remote online instruction has been discontinued for the upcoming school year in accordance with state lawmakers’ decisions.
Classes begin at 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 16.
The decision was discussed at the July 26 Fort Stockton ISD school board meeting and is effective immediately.
