LCRA awards grant to Sheffield FD

The Sheffield Volunteer Fire Department will install a new garage to protect emergency vehicles thanks to a grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority. The $13,448 Community Development Partnership Program grant, along with $3,400 in matching funds, will enable the department to add a new 24x24-foot garage to help protect fire trucks and specialized equipment from the weather.

Law enforcement meeting held in Fort Stockton

The monthly Big Bend Area Law Enforcement Officers Association meeting brought more than 60 officers and deputies from local, state, and federal agencies across the Big Bend to Fort Stockton on June 15. “It was started in 1970 in Brewster County,” said Pecos County Sheriff TJ Perkins.

LCPB expands the POWER Bag program to PCMH

The Literacy Coalition of the Permian Basin (LCPB) announced the expansion of their renowned literacy program, POWER Bag to the Pecos County Memorial Hospital. The development will further enhance early literacy efforts in the region and positively impact families in Pecos County.

County hears Dark Skies presentation

Changes in outdoor lighting technology have made the world a brighter place in recent years, it has made the mission of the McDonald Observatory in Fort Davis, more difficult. Counties surrounding the observatory – including Pecos County – have adopted outdoor lighting regulations in recent years to keep the night sky dark for the observatory, new technology has not been included in those regulations.
