Houston man dies in I-10 crash

Rainy conditions and excessive speed were reportedly the cause of a single vehicle crash 15 miles east of Fort Stockton on I-10 around 8 a.m. Thursday. According to the Department of Public Safety, a 2019 Chevrolet Impala driven by Anil Jassani, 23, of Houston, was traveling east on the interstate near Mile Marker 241 when the driver attempted to pass another vehicle at a high rate of speed on the wet roadway in rainy conditions.

Unemployment down in Fort Stockton

The economic outlook is bright for Fort Stockton and Pecos County. Economic Development Director Remie Ramos presented is quarterly report at Monday night’s Fort Stockton city council meeting, and said the unemployment rate dropped from July to September and sales tax collection saw a steady increase, up nearly 18% in 2023 so far compared to the previous year.

County renews contract with AirMedCare

Nobody wants to be in need of an air ambulance service, but it’s something nice to have when the need arises. The Pecos County Commissioner’s Court on Monday morning renewed a contract with Air Med Care Network, which provides emergency air ambulance service to Pecos County and dozens of counties across Texas and the United States.

Cops searching for missing person

On Nov. 8, 2023, Justin Joseph Urrutia went missing around mile marker 325 off I-10, close to the Sheffield area, after abandoning his vehicle in the pasture. He is a 41-year-old white male, 5-foot-10, 150 pounds, brown hair, and blue eyes, unknown type of clothing. He does have some medical issues and has deep dimples in both cheeks.

The Pecos County Sheriff's Office conducted an extensive search with the help of DPS and the use of all equipment that was made available.

Unfortunately, we were unable to locate him.

Mike Allison of Raptor Aerial Services visited the Old Fort on Monday, with Jim Hatcher and Ross Harper in tow. Mr. Hatcher is the President of the Fort Stockton Historical Society and Mr. Harper is the curator of the Annie Riggs Museum.
