The Hodges family has a long, storied history in Fort Stockton, and the city council has taken steps to ensure the name lives on. The city created the Hodges Pavilion adjacent to the Fort Stockton Convention Center in 2023 in honor of Delmon Hodges, and at Monday’s council meeting, renamed a portion of West 17th Street from the I-10 access road to Marshall Street between Candlewood Suites and Hampton Inn Hodges Parkway in honor of Hodges.

County approves contract for aerial hunting

The Pecos County Commissioner’s Court raced through a 26-item agenda in 45 minutes, Monday morning, approving a contract for aerial hunting/game management through the USDA Wildlife services. The court approved the bid submitted by Concho Aviation at its Dec. 11, 2023 meeting, and the contract is valid for two years, ending Dec. 31, 2025. Precinct 1 Commissioner Tom Chapman had asked for the contract to be for two years, and it was listed as just one year on the contract, and the motion was made to amend contract for two years.

City clarifies land acreage, extends bid deadline

The Fort Stockton city council – minus mayor Paul Casias – held a special lunchtime meeting Tuesday to clarify the total acreage of a plot of land the city had originally put out for bid near the landfill and extended the deadline for bids. The city originally said it was 500 acres but clarified that to 360 acres on Tuesday.

SRSU invites public to guided hikes on Hancock Hill in 2024

Sul Ross State University faculty and researchers will begin hosting monthly guided hikes on Hancock Hill in January. Each hike will have a theme and hike leader who serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) from Sul Ross State. Hike themes will vary each month with topics ranging from birds and plants to geology and anthropology.
