The Fort Stockton Pioneer welcomed Shawn Yorks back to town this week after a previous stint with the paper nine years ago.

Yorks is a Floridanative with 30 years of newspaper experience who worked for the Pioneer in 2013 as the managing editor under publisher Pam Palileo. Yorks will take on the role of editor under managing editor Nathan Heuer.

“Shawn will be a tremendous asset to our paper,” Heuer said. “I look forward to having a full-time editorial person at my side for the first time since my arrival in August of 2020. Shawn will enable us to expand our coverage and continue to improve the quality of the Pioneer on a weekly basis.”

After leaving Fort Stockton in the fall of 2013, Shawn returned to Guymon, Okla. where he spent seven years as the sports editor and photographer. Shawn then spent two years as a reporter at a weekly newspaper in Central Florida and spent the last six months as the editor of the twice-weekly Dalhart Texan in the northwest Texas Panhandle.

“I’m excited to be back in Fort Stockton, which as a place I enjoyed working years ago,” Yorks said. “I look forward to getting established in the community again.”

Shawn has family in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex; Guymon, Oklahoma, and Liberal, Kansas.
