Voter turnout nearing 8-year record
Last year’s May election reached a seven-year high for voter turnout at 942 people.
This year’s early voting total for the upcoming May 7 election is approaching that mark before election day. As of the end of the day on May 2, there were 924 people who voted in Pecos County – 860 in-person votes and 64 mail-in votes.
The total puts the voter tally at 11.4% of registered voters in the county (8,101).
Last year’s May election included the mayoral race and two city council seats. This year’s May election at the local level includes two school board seats, three city council seats, the Fort Stockton Independent School District bond propositions, and the city’s sales tax for continued road improvements.
Early voting ended on May 3. Election results will be posted by the end of the day on May 7 on the Pioneer’s Facebook page and in the May 12 print/digital edition of the Pioneer.
