Hospitalizations remain low despite record-setting COVID spike
The number of COVID-19 active cases in Pecos County continued to rise new levels this past week.
On Jan. 4, there were 207 active cases reported – 89 cases higher than the week prior. There were 167 new cases reported in the past seven days and of that group, 62 people were vaccinated (37%).
Pecos County Emergency Management Coordinator Jessie Dominguez reported last week that several new cases were individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 in the first quarter of 2021.
Despite the large increase in active cases, hospitalizations have stayed low according to Pecos County Memorial Hospital CEO Betsy Briscoe.
The CEO stated that PCMH has had no higher than three hospitalizations at their facility during the recent spike in cases.
On Jan. 4 there was one person hospitalized at PCMH due to COVID-19 and two additional Pecos County residents who were transferred to other healthcare facilities. The transfers, which happened on Dec. 28 and Dec. 30, were not in serious or critical condition.
