Fort Stockton Honors 40-Year Veteran

The Fort Stockton City Council convened January 12 to authorize a $7.5 million financing package for critical infrastructure and to pay tribute to a city employee with four decades of service. Mayor Paul Casias presided over the meeting, which opened with an invocation by Councilman Darren Hodges that included a prayer for rain and the recovery of Councilman Kenneth Ripley, who was absent from the evening’s meeting.
The Fort Stockton city council issued a formal proclamation honoring Daryl A. Bolt Wright for 40 years of dedicated service. Bolt Wright’s multi-decade career with the city included time as a police officer, a code enforcement officer, and most recently as an operator at the reverse osmosis water plant. The new year is not so far advanced that its character is already fixed and lost to the guidance of the best from the last year (the past). In that spirit we would do well to celebrate the better of recent efforts to, as religious folk tend to say, bless community. Insofar as the best of the 2025 FROM THE PULPIT columns go, I claim my turn at the grinder (read keyboard) to nominate a column offered up by Father Michael Wallens, who serves St. Stephens here in Ft. Stockton. Confronted as we are with so much enemy making and retributive brutality, his thoughts on preserving human dignity as biblical and incumbent on Christians and other God-fearers are more than germane.
